A Beautiful Candlelight Tour of Prestigious Summit Avenue Neighborhood Homes....
Thursday September 22nd, 5pm - 9pm
Imagine sauntering through these architectural masterpieces in the soft glow of evening, accompanied by romantic piano music as you bask in the ornate ambience of history:
~ European Elegance ~
C: 340 Summit- As you enter the library, currently being used as a recording studio, note that the entire room's interior was imported from Europe in 1925 including the magnificently carved doors, the cabinetry and the stone fireplace mantel.
~ Rule, Brittania! ~
D: 345 Summit- On the second floor there is a room whose paint motif is an exact replica of Prince Charles' London Clarence House palace dining room.
~ Let There be Light. ~
E: 405 Portland- Would you believe the sunroom now occupies part of the space where a house once stood? No one knows exactly when or why the home was destroyed but in its place is a lovely outdoor living space.
~ Masqueray Masterpiece. ~
F: 427 Portland- The grand curved staircase is a show stopper! And the front piazza and unique roof details make this French inspired home one of the most unique properties in Ramsey Hill.
~ "Out, Damn'd Spot!" ~
G: 435 Portland- As you enter the home try to imagine the beautiful beechnut woodwork covered in layers of black paint. That is what the current home owners found when they purchased the home.
~ An Early Renovation. ~
H: 444 Laurel- This home surely was one of the first homes in the neighborhood to experience extensive renovation. What began as a Queen Anne Victorian with Eastlake influences in the early 1880s underwent major work in 1924 and was transformed into the Tudor "cottage" on tour today.
~ Restoration, Period. ~
I: 457 Holly- This exuberant Victorain period restoration replaces a 1940's remodel of the first and second floors that divided the home into 6 apartments! A kitchen once occupied the original and now restored living room and a shower had been added alongside the ornate staircase in the foyer.
~ Mediterranean Masterpiece. ~
J: 470 Summit- Pieces of furniture belonging to the original owner who built the house in 1919 still grace the home today as do photographs of the home's interior during the 1920's.
*Tickets purchased online will be available for pickup at Will-Call by 4:00pm the day of the tour. Will-Call located at the Germanic American Institute - 301 Summit Avenue.
